Lost in Translation

Many members joined us for an interview with translator Jim Gessele, who recently completed the German to English translation for the book Though My Soul More Bent: Memoir of a Soviet German, recently published by the German Russian Heritage Society. The interview was conducted by Carol Just, a local oral historian and North Star member. The interviewer and translator are both descended from German Russian immigrants to North Dakota, and held a most delightful discussion. Jim discussed what lead up to the this project that proved to be a challenge but also a most satisfying effort.
Shown are photos of the interview with Jim Gessele who told the audience of his interest in stories and what has drawn him to the translation project.
