The 7th in a series of articles intended to make the user aware of various web sites and what they may offer. As usual, I have included a grab bag of stuff as I come across it.

  The German Language:The following web site has an interesting and informative introduction to Schwaebisch where you can look up "gell":
http://www.architektur.uni-stuttgart.de:1200/users/tk/sw/swab.html The Schwaebisch to English vocabulary section even offers pronunciations of some words.

  For the more adventurous or anyone interested, "The Internet Handbook of German Grammar" can be found t:http://www.travlang.com/languages/german/ihgg/

  Two newspapers to add to your list that may be of interest are: Yankton Press and Dakotan: http://www.yankton.net/
They give good coverage of news in southeastern
South Dakota and northeastern Nebraska. Check the Yankton site for obituaries; they're really good at publishing funeral notices for people from the center of GR settlement in southeastern South Dakota,Hutchinson, Bon Homme, Yankton, and Turner counties. Here's the Yankton P&D link to today's obituaries: http://www.yankton.net/stories/091199/com_0911990005.html

  I like to add the umlaut to some of my correspondence and to my genealogy records. If you want to do this here are the instructions:

Hold down the alt key while you type these number sequences on the numeric keypad (the number keys on the top of your keyboard won't work.)
To get... Type...
ä = alt + 132 Ä = alt + 142 ö = alt + 148

Ö = alt + 153 ü = alt + 129 Ü = alt + 154 ß = alt + 225

  Somewhere in my web travels, I came across this item which I think applies so well to some of us!

--------------------------23rd Psalm for Genealogists-----------------------
Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray
It maketh me to lie down and examine tombstones
It leadeth me into still courthouses
It restoreth my Ancestral Knowledge
It leadeth me in the paths of census records and ships' passenger lists
for my surnames' sake
Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries and
microfilm readers
I shall fear no discouragement, for a strong urge is within me
The curiosity and motivation, they comforteth me
It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of
countless documents
It anointest my head with burning midnight oil
My family group sheets runneth over
Surely, birth, marriage, and death dates shall follow me all the days of
my life
And I shall dwell in the house of a family history-seeker forever.
